People of Blairlogie
For those ingterested in Powis House and the Mayne family who lived there, please visit the article on "Death on the Pale Horse" which tells the story of William Mayne 1818 - 1855 and a number of other in the Mayne family. Another good read is "The Maynes family of Powis and Logie" and it includes the Mayne family tree from 1586 to 1801. The article comes from the Stirling Natural History and Archaeological Society annual lectures, published in 1927.
For a small community, nestled in a rural corner of Scotland, Logie and its main village of Blairlogie have had more than their fair share of famous people. Something about this community brings out the fame potential in all of them.

The Younger family, famous Scottish brewers, and from which came Lord George Younger, who became Secretary of State for Defence for the UK, lived in Montagu Cottage (later to become Blairlogie House Hotel).
Kenny Logan, international star of Scottish Rugby Union Football, grew up at Powis Mains – farmed by the Logan family for over 100 years.
We have also had many heroes, not least of which were the three brothers from the Sharp family. Robert, James and Hugh were killed in the trenches in the First World War, a devastating blow to the family and the whole Community.

Today, the parish of Logie contains around 200 people – a mix of the young and the old – and it was only recently that Blairlogie lost its first centenarian, Mrs. Nancy Bampton of Croft House.

This, together with historic photographs of leading characters back to 1890, and growing chronological records of the inhabitants and owners of all the homes over the last two hundred years, constitutes a vital record of, and for, the people of Logie.
